Better to give than receive: Economics professor finds donating makes people feel better, and possible link between tax exemptions and perception of health.

"Is it really better to give than receive? A new study adds to a growing body of research that suggests it is—at least when it comes to your health. The research, recently published in the Journal of Economic Psychology, found that donating to charity may actually improve a giver’s physical and emotional well being. The study also suggested a link between increases in charitable tax subsidies, which have been found to spur giving, and improvements in people’s perceptions of their own health. (Perception of health tends to be a good indicator of future health-care use and mortality rates.)" -- Lisa Ward, the Wall Street Journal
