At Dallas luncheon honoring philanthropy, 13-year-old Charlsie Doan received a standing ovation for fundraising work for hospital and diabetes advocacy.

"The group gave just one standing ovation. It was for the youngest award recipient. Charlsie Doan, 13, received the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award on Friday at the 29th annual Awards Luncheon of the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. 'You are a rock star,' emcee Scott Murray told the poised teenager. Born without a right hand and dealing with Type 1 diabetes, the Hockaday student raises funds for the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, where she’s been a longtime patient, and advocates for research on diabetes." -- Deborah Fleck, the Dallas Morning News
