If the flooding, frogs, and mosquitos weren't enough nature for South Carolinians, swindlers are using nasty, brutish, and short ploys; officials are warning residents about the scams.

"After record-breaking rain and heavy flooding hit South Carolina, huge numbers of frogs and clouds of mosquitoes appeared as if from nowhere, and another pesky population multiplied — fraud perpetrators and scammers.

"The phone calls have already started, with scammers telling people they’ll get disaster aid but only if they send money first. State officials have warned of dishonest home-repair schemes, and the National Insurance Crime Bureau has dispatched teams to the state to try and get ahead of fraud involving flood-damaged cars."--David Slade, The Post and Courier
