In Florida, some "inmates" are assigned manual labor in place of time in a cell, and they spend their time picking berries for charities.

"Buckets of blueberries were dumped into yellow containers as inmates picked for Polk County's charities on Saturday.

"In order to keep the fruit from going to waste when it falls to the ground, Bill Braswell, owner of Polkdale Farms, opened his fields to more than 180 Polk County Weekend Work Inmates, those who have been sentenced to work instead of jail time. Many Florida growers started looking at alternate ways to use the rest of their crop when packaging companies started buying cheaper blueberries from Georgia last week."--Kaitlyn Pearson, The Ledger
