Maryland Attorney General and Secretary of State have shut down the nonprofit Solicitors for Southern Maryland Veterans Association due to fraud.

"Attorney General Brian E. Frosh and Secretary of State John C. Wobensmith announced Wednesday that the Office of the Secretary of State has shut down a purported charity for veterans that allegedly falsified marketing materials and other documents and has not accounted for donations.

"According to an Office of the Attorney General release, the Secretary of State issued a cease-and-desist order against the Southern Maryland Veterans Association, along with principal Dan Brashear and alleged former associate Norman Randolph McDonald, a La Plata man who currently faces charges for allegedly stealing about $10,000 in the veterans association's donations and materials."--the Somdnews
