NE nonprofit Prairie Gold Homes is training convicts in useful skills and building houses for community at the same time--50 since program started in 2002.

"Angelo Douglas walked into the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln three years ago, an 18-year-old with few job skills and convictions for attempted robbery and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. He plans to walk out in May 2016 as an amateur carpenter able to hang drywall and install laminate flooring and tile. He learned those skills and others while working for Prairie Gold Homes Inc., a nonprofit that teaches inmates to build houses through on-the-job training and provides energy-efficient residences to buyers." -- Kevin Abourezk, the Lincoln Journal-Star
