There’s a lot to talk about.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Finance has announced that it has scheduled a hearing on Thursday, March 17, “Examining Charitable Giving and Trends in the Nonprofit Sector.”

The hearing’s scheduled witnesses are Independent Sector president and chief executive officer Dan Cardinali, Oregon Food Bank chief executive officer Susannah Morgan, Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy associate dean for research and international programs Una Osili, and C. Eugene Steuerle of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center and the Urban Institute’s Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy. Steuerle is also affiliated with the ACT for Alexandria community foundation.

There’s certainly a lot to talk about in these and related subject areas, and one hearing likely will not afford enough time to do so in much, and much-needed, depth—but it may be a good, substantive start.
