An Illinois telemarketer, Safety Publications has been indicted by the Attorney General on charges that it raised money for charities through fraud, targeting the elderly.

"A for-profit Chicago telemarketer misled the public as it raised millions of dollars for charities and should no longer be allowed to solicit for Illinois nonprofits, state Attorney General Lisa Madigan said in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

"Madigan's court complaint came in response to an August 2015 Tribune investigation that found clients of Safety Publications Inc. got well under 20 percent of the money it collected and that Safety failed to disclose the felony conviction of a top officer, among other problems."--David Jackson and Gary Marx, the Chicago Tribune
