Steelcase office furniture heir and CEO Peter Wege died, age 94; gave millions in lifetime to hometown (and company headquarters) of Grand Rapids.

"Peter Wege, the son of the founder of Grand Rapids-based Steelcase Inc., used his office furniture fortune on philanthropy throughout Grand Rapids for decades, a civic altruism that continues even after his death July 7 at age 94. As Steelcase's largest shareholder, Wege — a fervent environmentalist — was able to commit millions of dollars toward 'green' causes. He retired as vice chairman of the Steelcase board about a decade ago to work on the Wege Foundation, which he created in 1967. It has given away millions, much of it in his hometown." -- Crain's Detroit Business
